A leadership development workshop reinforcing the pivotal role of school principals as mentors, guides and culture-shapers.
The success of any educational institution depends heavily on the quality of guidance from its principal. Declining student numbers in Urdu schools is a worrying trend with many causes — but the role of the principal cannot be ignored. Dr. Kazim Malik spoke at length on developing leadership qualities in principals, distinguishing the role of a leader from that of a manager, and emphasising that a principal should lead, not merely manage.
These thoughts were echoed by noted writer, poet and columnist Mr. Shameem Tarique at the programme for principals arranged by Kawish. Named after the famous verse “Baghban teri hasti se hai gulzar-e-wajood,” the programme was held at Millat School, Jogeshwari West, on Saturday, 18th April 2015. Introductory speeches were delivered by Mr. Nisar Khan and Mr. Khan Mehmood, beat officers for Urdu private and BMC schools respectively.
Mr. Amir Ansari, President of Kawish, discussed in detail the problems faced by Urdu schools and possible solutions, guiding attendees on planning a path back toward the successful history of Urdu education. Mr. Ghulam Arif spoke on drawing guidance from the writings of renowned educationists like A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Dr. Zakir Husain. Millat School administrator Mr. Naeem Siddiqui stressed the need to pair discipline with education, while guest lecturer Dr. Keloskar (Deputy Education Officer) expressed satisfaction at seeing private-school principals and BMC teachers united in planning for the standard of education.
